Khiree's Story
After a spinal cord injury changed his life, Khiree faced daily barriers to connection, mobility, and independence. Getting to appointments was difficult, and everyday routines placed strain on his family. But a visit to Devices 4 the Disabled on a cool, rainy day, opened new possibilities.
Thanks to the support of our donors, Khiree received a specialized wheelchair and his mother received essential transfer equipment—giving them both greater freedom, safety, and peace of mind. Most of all, Khiree found connection, support, and the tools to move forward.

Celebrating Disability Pride Month and the 35th Anniversary of the ADA
|
Pride, Progress, and the Power of Representation
July marks Disability Pride Month and the 35th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) — and we were honored to be part of the official recognition at the Chicago City Council.
Bob Shea, D4D’s Founding Director, and Edgar, a dedicated D4D volunteer, represented D4D as Mayor Brandon Johnson and Commissioner Rachel Arfa of the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities, led the Council in passing commemorating this milestone.
Being part of this momentous occasion was a powerful example of the importance of advocacy, visibility, and the ongoing work to ensure access, equity, and dignity for all.

Carrying On a Legacy:
The Road Ahead
|
|
We first got to know Roseanne Tellez through her impactful work at FOX 32 Chicago—sharing stories that lift up voices, raise awareness, and connect communities.
But behind the camera is a story even more personal and powerful.
We honor the memory of her son, David, through Roseanne’s generosity—whose love and dedication continue to inspire our work.
When Roseanne visited D4D, she came not just with a donation, but with a story. She shared about the many times her son found freedom and joy exploring Chicago in his power wheelchair. From lakefront paths to neighborhood corners and city parks, David captured the world around him through photography—seeing it all through a lens of creativity, courage, and a deep appreciation for the people and humanity he encountered along the way. .
To honor the way he embraced life, Roseanne donated several essential pieces of medical equipment—giving others access to the same freedom David cherished and the spirit of discovery that defined his life. We are deeply grateful. Her gift doesn’t just support our mission—it carries David’s legacy forward, paving the road ahead for others to live with renewed curiosity, adventure, and possibility.
