Me, of all people...

IMG_7160Jackie never imagined she would be the one receiving help like this.

Referred to Devices 4 the Disabled by Renaissance Social Services, she came into the process simply looking for support with mobility. What she left with was something much more powerful: a renewed sense of independence, dignity, and freedom in her daily life.

With multiple medical conditions, even short trips outside her home could feel overwhelming. Walking long distances wasn’t just difficult—it was unpredictable. Some days were manageable, others required her to stop often or turn back sooner than she wanted. The uncertainty shaped how she moved through the world.

But everything shifted when she was fitted with a rollator designed specifically for her needs.

Now, Jackie doesn’t have to plan her life around limits. She can go farther with confidence, knowing she has support whenever she needs it—and just as importantly, a place to sit when she does. That simple change has made everyday movement feel possible again.

I have never been helped like this before,” she shared, still taking in what it meant to finally have equipment that truly fit her.

And then, even more powerful:
Me, of all people.

It wasn’t said with doubt—it was said with gratitude, a quiet disbelief that she was the one being seen, supported, and equipped in this way. It captures something we hear often at Devices 4 the Disabled: that moment when someone realizes they are not overlooked—they are exactly who this support is meant for.

And in a reflection of that impact, Jackie chose to give back in her own way. After receiving equipment that truly met her needs, she donated her previous rolling walkerknowing it could now support someone else on their journey. It was a simple, powerful act that embodies the spirit of community and the compassionate cycle of equipment that surrounds this work.

Jackie’s story is not about limitation. It’s about what happens when the right support meets a person’s real needs. It’s about movement returning. Confidence returning. Choice returning.

At its heart, this is why the work exists: to make sure people like Jackie can move through the world on their own terms—steadier, stronger, and fully supported.
