When Martrell Stevens was just four years old, a stray bullet left him paralyzedโbut his resilience, determination, and spirit turned hardship into hope. In 2016, Devices 4 the Disabled helped surprise 12-year-old Martrell with a backyard basketball hoop, supporting his love for wheelchair basketball and setting him on a path to greatness. When Francisca received her new wheelchair, her gentle, humbled smile said everything without a word. Family means the world to her, and this chair would allow her to move more freely alongside her daughter, granddaughter, great-granddaughter, and her entire family.
At Devices 4 the Disabled, we see this kind of kindness multiply every day โ compassion shared through our mission creating ripples that reach far beyond a single moment.
One of those ripples came back to us in the sweetest way. Later that day, Franciscaโs granddaughter, Berenice, arrived with a box of beautiful, hand-made treats as a heartfelt thank-you to the D4D team.
And what a special treat it turned out to be! Berenice runs a small business, Genesis Sweets, and we were honored to have her join us for our Cause 4 Celebration event โ creating desserts for the occasion and making the evening even sweeter.
