CHAP Strengthens D4D's Mission

Connection fuels impact. When people come together around a shared purpose—whether through service, expertise, or lived experience—possibility expands.

One of these meaningful connections began when our founder, Bob, was invited to speak at a corporate social responsibility event focused on hands-on service—where a company gathered for a charitable team-building experience that gives back. In small groups, the team assembled, safety tested, and decorated new wheelchairs—each one built with care to support the growing number of people living with mobility challenges. At the end of the event, a representative from the selected nonprofit charity arrived to receive the donation of chairs and thank the team for their work. That day, CHAP—the Community Health Accreditation Partner—was that team, Bob was that representative, and Devices 4 the Disabled (D4D) received the wheelchairs to place directly into the hands of the people we serve.

What followed was more than a donation. It was a conversation.

As Bob shared the story of D4D—how we remove barriers to essential mobility equipment, adapt devices to individual needs, and give people the tools they need to live fully—something resonated. That shared understanding of dignity, quality, and person-centered care became the foundation of a lasting relationship.

From that connection, Nathan DeGodt, President and CEO of CHAP joined D4D as a member of our Advisory Board. CHAP is a national leader in advancing quality, safety, and accountability across community-based health organizations, and Nathan brings that same commitment to thoughtful leadership and impact-driven service to D4D.

Through Nathan’s engagement and the generosity of CHAP’s team, D4D has benefited from strategic insight, best practices, and guidance that strengthen how we grow and how we communicate our mission. Their support reflects the role CHAP plays every day across the country—helping organizations operate with clarity, integrity, and purpose—while reinforcing what collaboration can make possible at the local level.

This partnership is a powerful reminder: meaningful impact doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens when mission-driven nonprofits, guided by visionary leaders devoted to service, come together—building relationships grounded in shared values and a belief that collectively, we can do more for the communities we serve.

We are grateful for CHAP, for Nathan’s leadership, his team's support, and for the connections that continue to move our mission—and the people we serve—forward.
